SALIENT FEATURES
Kolleru Lake is one of the largest fresh water eco- system (wetland) of International  importance recognized under Ramsar Convention (Iran 1971) covering 91010 Ha. It attracts 189 rare and endangered local and migratory birds including Grey Pelicans. It is a natural flood balancing reservoi between Krishna and Godavari river basinsr. The water spread area of the lake is around 100000 Ha during the flood season ( July to November ) and is around 77,138 acres during winter and summer months. The Kolleru Lake was declared as Ramsar Site along with Chilka Lake in Orissa.
The Government Andhra Pradesh has declared the Kolleru lake as a Wild life Sanctuary and issued draft notification through G.O.Ms.No. 76, EFS&T (For.III) Department, Dt. 25.9.1995. Government issued final notification of the Sanctuary vide G.O.Ms.No. 120, EFS&T (For.III) Dept., Dt. 04-10-1999
